Featured Project: Making Sense

By Amy Ratelle on Apr 14th, 2016

In many museums, guests are repeatedly warned to not touch the displays, as this could damage or degrade the exhibits. While this does keep the items in better condition for more people to enjoy, this is still only a visual display, and doesn’t often allow for deeper connection. Making Sense explores alternatives to ocularcentric ("touch with the eyes") interaction in museums by using cutting edge technologies like 3D scanning and printing to reimagine museum artifacts and develop unique multisensory interactions. This research brings together material and digital "making" techniques to design innovative, lasting, and meaningful engagements between people and artifacts.
