Dr. dos Santos Petry comes to us from Brazil, where she is completing postdoctoral research on a scholarship from the São Paulo Research Foundation (Fapesp), at the Department of Advertising, Public Relations and Tourism at School of Communications and Arts, University of São Paulo (ECA- USP).
She has degrees in Psychology (BA, UNISINOS University), Education (MA, UNISINOS University) and Communications and Semiotics (PhD, PUC-SP University).
Dr. dos Santos Petry’s research applies a framework combining Philosophy, Psychoanalysis and Education theories in order to understand gaming, authorship and knowledge production within digital games. With the collaboration of colleagues, the results of her graduate research were recently transformed into a digital game prototype. In 2012, she also co-designed and co-taught the first graduate seminar on digital game studies ever to be offered at the University of Sao Paulo.
Dr. dos Santos Petry’s current postdoctoral research examines the expansion of digital gaming beyond entertainment, in cases where barriers between play/leisure and work/labor seem to be breaking down.
She is author of "Play, authorship and knowledge: fundamentals for an understanding about Games" (2014, in Portuguese).
